Vision / Mission / Who We Are, Core Values, What We Believe, Guidelines & Discipleship
Victory Christian Center is a fast growing Spirit-filled, charismatic church that welcomes every generation, every denomination, every race, every gender and teaches/preaches "thanks be to God, who gives us the VICTORY through our Lord Jesus, the Christ, in every area of life." Also that Jesus has made ALL true Christians competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit!
In Victory Christian Center (VCC) our vision is fulfilling the great commission…Matthew 28:19-21 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
An equally important part of the vision in VCC is...Ephesians 4:11-16 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
We are committed to honor God and Advance His kingdom by leading a Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered, socially-responsible church in the Louisville, KY Metro area.
Our mission is to reach every nationality in every generation with the gospel of Jesus Christ. In order to achieve this, we will draw on the combined vision, talents, prayers, and resources of our Christian family.
Our desire to serve this church body and community being motivated by one thing, and one thing alone: Jesus Christ. Jesus’ final words before ascending into Heaven tell us not to keep this good news to ourselves but to go and spread it to the world and make disciples of all nations.
1. Lordship
Because Jesus is "King of kings and Lord of lords"
we believe that whole-hearted submission to God's will and his word is the
starting point of the Christian faith and the foundation of all spiritual
growth.
So then,
just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him. (Colossians
2:6)
2. Evangelism
Because God's heart is to reach the lost, we seek to build churches primarily
through evangelism not transfer, through birth not adoption.
For God
so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in
him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
3. Discipleship
Because we are called to make disciples, our primary focus is on ministering to
people not conducting meetings, administering programs or building buildings.
Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey
everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very
end of the age. (Matthew 28:19,20)
4. Leadership Development
Because we are called to raise up spiritual leaders, we prioritize leadership
training and deliberately create opportunities for young potential leaders to
develop their gifts.
(And the
things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to
reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. 2 Timothy 2)
5. Family
Because the family is the foundation and validation of all ministry, we refuse
to sacrifice our marriages and our children on the altars of temporal success.
And, because we believe God has called us to be a spiritual family, we reject
the ides of disposable relationships and choose to walk in life-long covenant,
love, respect and unity.
(Unless
the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches
over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain ... Sons are a heritage from the
LORD, children a reward from him. Psalm 127:1,3)
Statement of Faith on What We Believe, Teach, Preach and Minister
This church accepts the Holy Scriptures as the revealed will of God, the all-sufficient rule for faith and practice, and for the purpose of maintaining general unity, adopts the following statement of fundamental truths and Statement of Faith:
The Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
That there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
In the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in the blessed hope of His personal, visible, future return to this earth in power and glory to receive to Himself His blood-bought church that it may be with Him forever.
That for the salvation of lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential and that the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ.
We believe...
That regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation.
In the present sanctifying power and ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly and holy life.
In the baptism with the Holy Spirit and in the exercise of spiritual gifts, according to Acts 2:4, with the evidence of speaking in other tongues, is given to Believers who ask for it.
In the redemptive work of Christ on the cross and that it provides healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer.
We believe...
In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of everlasting life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of everlasting damnation.
In the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
We believe...
In water baptism by immersion and observance of the Lord’s Supper.
We are convinced that every believer is called to be a disciple, and as described in Matthew 4:19, a disciple is someone who follows Jesus, reaches unbelievers with the Gospel and does these activities in community with other believers.
In support of this process, the Elders of Victory Christian Center shall not allow practices that are controlling, coercive or intrusive, or that violate Biblical principles, the priesthood of the believer and the disciple-making principles enumerated below:
We believe the Bible is the ultimate authority in the life of the believer.
All Christians are called to preach the Gospel and make disciples. This means we are called to follow Jesus and to help others follow Jesus.
We are called to uphold Scripture and provide godly counsel and leadership while reinforcing the God-given right and responsibility of every individual to follow his or her own conscience and make his or her own decisions.
We do not require anyone in the disciple-making process to follow any mentor's advice.
We believe in restoring families and – especially in the church ministry context – we encourage every youth to honor and respect his or her parents.
We believe in the church universal, the church local and the calling of believers to worship and affiliate with the church or ministry of their choice. Therefore, we reject exclusivity or elitism in any of our churches and ministries.
We believe the disciple-making process should never be exclusive. Therefore, individuals should feel free to discuss their spiritual growth, personal issues and disagreements with other pastors, mentors, friends and family.
Victory Christian Center often speaks of “making disciples,” and “discipleship” is one of our core values. When we speak of “being a disciple” and “making disciples,” it means we are called to follow Jesus and to help others follow Jesus. The Scripture reference for this is Matthew 4:19, Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (New King James Version)
One of our core values is “Lordship.” However, we do not teach what is commonly called “lordship salvation” (i.e., we do not believe that a person has to come under perfect submission to Christ in every area of life to get saved and to stay saved.)
Christ saved us and made us perfect in God’s eyes at the moment we appealed to Him for forgiveness. Lordship is our proclamation that Jesus Christ is now the center of our lives (1 Corinthians 3:11) and we will make every effort to obey His Word and follow His will as laid out in the Bible.
