The Foundation of God's Promises
2 Peter 1:3–4:  as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,

​by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Seven Reasons God Gives Promises

That connects with 2 Peter 1:3–4, where Peter explains that God's promises are not merely about obtaining blessings—they are intended to make us "partakers of the divine nature" as we escape the corruption that is in the world through sinful desire.

IV. Christ Revealed
Showing that every covenant promise ultimately points to Jesus.
As Paul wrote: "For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen..."

This section demonstrates that Christ is the fulfillment, guarantee, mediator, and inheritance of God's promises.

The Faithfulness of God
This answers a different question: "Can God's promises ever fail?"
The answer throughout the New Testament is No.

God cannot lie (Titus 1:2)
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8)
God's Word stands forever (cf. the New Testament witness such as 1 Peter 1:25)
All the promises of God in Christ are Yes and Amen (2 Corinthians 1:20)

Heaven and earth may pass away, but Christ's words will never pass away (Matthew 24:35)
While God never breaks His promise, believers can fail to enter into what God has promised through unbelief or disobedience.
Hebrews 3–4 will be a major foundation for this truth.

10 New Testament Promises Every Believer Should Know
1. Eternal Life
John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
Promise: Every believer who trusts in Jesus Christ receives eternal life.

2. Forgiveness of Sins. 1 John 1:9
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Promise: God completely forgives and cleanses the repentant believer.

3. Salvation by Grace
Ephesians 2:8-9. "For by grace you have been saved through faith..."
Promise: Salvation is God's gift—not something we earn.

4. God's Constant Presence
Hebrews 13:5. "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
Promise: Jesus never abandons His children.

5. Peace
John 14:27. "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you..."
Promise: Christ gives supernatural peace regardless of circumstances.

6. Wisdom
James 1:5 "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God..."
Promise: God gladly gives wisdom to those who ask in faith.

7. Provision
Philippians 4:19 “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
Promise: God provides for every genuine need.

8. Victory
Romans 8:37 "Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us."
Promise: Through Christ we are victorious over every spiritual battle.

9. Answered Prayer
John 15:7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you."
Promise: Abiding believers can pray with confidence.

10. Christ's Return
John 14:2-3 "I will come again and receive you to Myself..."
Promise: Jesus is coming again for His people.
